Lubbock is situated in the northwestern part of Texas. The city’s nickname is the “Hub City” as it is surrounded by five main highways- I-27, I-40, US 82, US 62 and US-84, making it easily and conveniently accessible.  There are many ways of getting in and around Lubbock. The transportation infrastructure of the city is well-developed, thus making it perfect for driving in the city. Lubbock, the Hub City is served by five major highways. I-27 connects Lubbock to Amarillo, I-40, a transcontinental route, US 82 and US 62 run concurrently through the Lubbock east-west, and US 84(Slaton Highway/Avenue Q/ Clovis Road) is east-west route running North-West/South-East diagonally. The city is surrounded by Loop 289.

Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport is the airport in Lubbock. American EagleUnited Airlines and Southwest Airlines serve the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport. The airport is in northeast part of Lubbock, about 5 miles north of downtown. It is the eighth busiest airport in the state. Connecting flights in Houston, Denver or Dallas is required to travel to Lubbock, as there are a few direct flights from these places to Lubbock.

Getting Around Lubbock

Lubbock has a simple grid layout, making it easy to get around the city. The public transportation in Lubbock is offered by Citibus. Citibus run several bus routes throughout the city. Also, it is easy to get around the city by car.

Lubbock has a simple grid structure, making it easy and convenient to get around the city by car. In the city, lettered avenues run north and south, and numbered streets run east and west. The grid starts at Avenue A (east) and First Street (north). The Marsha Sharp Freeway allows easy travel between the southwest and northeast parts of the city.

Getting Around Lubbock by Bus

Lubbock’s public transit authority- Citibus, runs fixed bus routes all around the city. The one-way fare is $1.75 for adults, children 6-12- $1.25, and a day pass costs $3.50. The routes majorly pass through the Texas Tech University and Downtown Transfer Plaza.

Citibus runs six days a week from Monday through Saturday.
Timings: 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
